Chapter Membership Success? Simple Thoughts to Share…
Need a simple solution to recruiting members? Membership in any organization can be a dilemma. Follow the easy plan set by the Pacific Northwest Chapter to enroll new members and to renew current memberships.
Throughout the year, our chapter presents workshops which attract large numbers of designers and engineers. These workshops teach subjects current to design needs in our region. When planning for these workshops, we set pricing at two levels: members are at a low cost entry amount; non-members pay that amount plus the $50 fee for IPC DC membership. It is the nonmember’s option to complete the membership application and join – or not.
We have these prospective members complete and return membership forms at the event. We then submit the new member form and money to IPC – after we complete the line signing them up to our specific chapter. We also add these new members to our email listing and acknowledge their membership in our chapter. We offer this same option to those needing to renew their membership at or near the time of our workshop. Our officers track the membership and who is due to renew, often personally calling that member to thank them for supporting our Chapter and asking for their suggestions to improve our educational opportunities or our meetings in general.
Our membership reflects the level of interest and caring we continued to share in the chapter even when the Pacific Northwest economy was severely depressed. We often had everyone stand and announce if they had a job or were seeking employment. That networking effort resulted in many finding contract work to tide them through the hard times and some even found full-time employment.
Networking at meetings is really the heart of any organization such as the Designers Council. Perhaps your chapter can benefit from what we have learned and implemented.
Congratulations for belonging to a great core network – the IPC and for furthering the Designers Council membership. By focusing on this “little thing” called membership and retention we all benefit.
