Our January annual meeting feature election of president and secretary andwill be held January 25 from 5:30 pm to 8:15 pm at InFocus in Wilsonville. Gil White, of Dynamic Details, will be presenting "Via Fabrication: Blind and Buried, Micro, and Stacked". Please join us for this educational opportunity to gain designers strength by better understanding:
- Definitions of the different types of vias
- Construction and materials
- Design considerations and guidelines
- via-in-pad
- offsets
- snowman
- fabrication process
- cost trade offs
During the past 26 years, Gil has worked in the area of Electronic Interconnect, including Design, Fabrication, and Materials for electronic substrate. This includes MCM, BGA, and Flip Chip interposers & substrate, as well as Rigid, Flex, and Rigid-Flex PCBs. Education includes Electric! al Engineering (BSEE) and a degree in Business, (MBA with emphasis on Technology Management). Additionally, Gil has provided Technical Seminars in 14 countries within North America, Asia, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
Our February executive board meeting will be held February 8 at 5:30 pm and will be at Intel. All are welcome. After reviewing our member’s survey results, we will solidify our calendar for 2006. We strive to give our members what the educational opportunities they want!
We will also be offering a special event in February on the 15th from 11:30 am to 1 pm. Ed Dawson, of Peripheral Logic Corporation, along with Chris Wilcox of ADIVAwill be offering a demo of ADIVA Software.

RTP Chapter
We kickoff the RTP Chapter’s seventh year with a presentation that is interesting to both designers and engineers alike. This presentation is intended to remove the mystery behind EMI/EMC and electromagnetics by explaining things in everyday terms, and without the mathematics. Then using these simple explanations, Faraday and Maxwell’s contribution to electromagnetics is explained. Various typical mistakes during PCB design that greatly impact EMI/EMC performance will be demonstrated during this discussion.Simple design approaches that do not increase the cost of the PCB are explained.
The presentation is titled “EMC and Electromagnetics for the Working Engineer” and will be given by Dr. Bruce Archambeault, Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM in Research Triangle Park, NC. Dr. Archambeault has authored or co-authored a number of papers in computational electromagnetics, mostly applied to real-world EMC applications. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for theIEEE EMC Society and a past Board of Directors member for the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES). He has served as a past IEEE/EMCS Distinguished Lecturer and Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility. He is the author of the book “PCB Design for Real-World EMI Control” and the lead author of the book titled “EMI/EMC Computational Modeling Handbook”.
The January chapter meeting is being held at the Tekelec facility in Morrisville, NC on January 18 beginning at 5:30 with a catered dinner. Chapter officer elections for 2006 will be held during this meeting, so all members are strongly encouraged to attend.
Anyone interested in joining theRTP IPC Designers CouncilChapter or just attending our meetings and tradeshowsshould contact membership officer Marcus Johnson at mvjohn@bellsouth.netand check our website at http://dcchapters.ipc.org/rtp for details.
